President Sirisena condoles on death of Saudi King Abdullah

 

President Maithripala Sirisena has expressed his deepest condolences and offered sympathy to the people of Saudi Arabia upon the death of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

Abdullah Bin Abdilazīz was the King of Saudi Arabia from 2005 to 2015. He ascended to the throne on 1 August 2005, he passed away yesterday at the age of 90.

“The late King won the hearts of his people with his inspirational leadership which brought peace and prosperity to the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The former Majesty was a profound icon of peace and a beacon of light for a better world and will be remembered for his endeavours in bringing peace and stability of the Middle East Region,” President Sirisena said in a message of condolences.

President Sirisena while appreciating Saudi Arabia’s solidarity extended to Sri Lanka under the leadership of the late King in multilateral for a said late King’s pivotal contribution to the Non-Aligned Movement, Organization for Islamic Cooperation and the Gulf Cooperation Council are acknowledged.

Your Majesty,

It is with profound sadness that I have learnt of the passing away of His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The late King’s support and friendship in furthering bilateral relations with Sri Lanka will be long remembered. I recall with gratitude the development assistance extended to Sri Lanka through the Saudi Fund for Development. The solidarity extended to Sri Lanka under the leadership of the late King in multilateral for a is appreciated. His pivotal contribution to the Non-Aligned Movement, Organization for Islamic Cooperation and the Gulf Cooperation Council are acknowledged.
