Government officials’ respectful support is expected to take the country forward – President

 

The respectful support of the public officials is expected to take the country forward under the new strategies of the government, President Maithripala Sirisena said. The public officials should be committed to carry out their duties with utmost dedication, determination and sacrifice, the President added.

President Sirisena made these comments at a ceremony in Thopawewa grounds organized by the public officials in Polonnaruwa to welcome the President.

Public officials should be given the opportunity to perform their duties with dignity, President added.
While pointing out that the success of the guidance and resources provided by the politicians depends on commitment and honesty of the officials, President further said it is the responsibility of the politicians to give the opportunity to them to work in accordance with their knowledge while safeguarding their independence.

President said the recently concluded Presidential Election saw the unprecedented trend of politicization of government officials and added that he is well aware that some had to engage in these activities without their will.

President pointed out that a number of reforms should be done in the public sector and emphazised the importance of carrying our government policies in a new method guaranteed by the efficiency and corruption free manner.
