President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe yesterday visited President's electorate Polonnaruwa to meet the people.
It is the first time since his election the President is meeting the people of Polonnaruwa, who played a pivotal role ensuring the victory of president at the election.
The President last morning observed religious rituals at the historic Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya in Anuradhapura and obtained the blessings of the Maha Sangha. He also participated in religious activities at the Ruwanweli Maha Seya.
Welcoming the President the Chief Prelate of the Atamasthanaya in Anuradhapura Ven. Pallegama Sirinivasa Thero said the President has the potential to direct the country towards the right path.
Sri Lankan people have placed enormous trust on the President and he should work hard to fulfill the aspirations of the public, the Thero told the President.
The President accompanied by the Prime Minister paid homage to the historical Gal Viharaya and Maha Sangha headed by chief incumbent of the Viharaya Ven. Wendaruwe Upali Thero invoked blessings to the President.
The President and the Prime Minister then attended a massive public rally held at the Thopawewa Public grounds this afternoon to welcome the President.
