The Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat Kamalesh Sharma has arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday.
During the visit, Sharma will meet President Maithripala Sirisena, who became the Commonwealth's Chair-in-Office following the recent Presidential elections on Monday (02).
The Secretary-General will also meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera to discuss Commonwealth priorities as well as options for practical Commonwealth support for Sri Lanka’s national priorities.
"I am looking forward to working with President Sirisena as Chair-in-Office in the run up to the Heads of Government meeting in Malta in November," the Secretary-General said before his departure.
"Sri Lanka is a founding member of the modern Commonwealth, and I will be discussing how we can best support the country during this period of transition and in advancing national plans for the future," he said.
