Execute today’s duty to face tomorrow’s challenges - President

We should not be troubled about the challenges we have to face tomorrow. Instead, we should execute our duties properly today, keeping tomorrow’s challenges in mind, said President Maithripala Sirisena.

“Some people ask me about my role at the next general election, after being elected with strong support by United National Party (UNP) and now holding the position of President of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP. My answer is; the important thing is not the election but the fulfilling of promises made for the people who brought me to power,” the President stated.

The President was speaking at the ‘Janatha Abhinandana Uththamachara Ulela’ at Nittambuwa Public Playground yesterday (Feb. 08), organized to convey President’s gratitude to the people in Siyane Korale.

The event was organized by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

The President pointed out that today, the Government is moving forward using a new vision and new strategies with the historical experiences of UNP and SLFP. He said that he is totally committed to recognize the aspirations of the people and to make the necessary changes the country needs.

The President further said that the Siyane Korale is a blessed place in Sri Lankan politics because it has produced two great leaders from two major political parties such as D.S. Senanayake and S.W.R.D.Bandaranaike.

“I can say that I too have a great affection with the people of the Siyane Korale”, the President further said.

President Sirisena express his gratitude to former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga for rendering a yeoman service to create the new Government.

The President and the former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga were presented felicitation mementos by the people of the Siyane Korale.
