The Food Security Ministry and Industry and Commerce Ministry officials will work in unison for the benefit of the people, Food Security Minister Gamini Jayawickrema Perera said.
Addressing a media briefing at the Ministry on Friday, Minister Perera said this program will protect the consumers, local producers and exporters. He said to give maximum benefits of the reduction of prices of 13 essential items in the interim budget, price control officers will be appointed in each electorate across the country.
Perera said the prices of some goods produced in the villages are increased by the time the goods are brought to towns. "We will formulate a special programme to end this," he said.
Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said that some traders supply goods which are different from those specified in tenders to Lanka Sathosa. "Our main objective is to provide quality goods to consumers," he said.
