Major General Chrishantha De Silva, new Army Commander


Major General A.W.J. Chrishantha De Silva was appointed as the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, effective from February 22, 2015, on the directions of the President Maithripala Sirisena as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

Accordingly, Mr. De Silva received his letter of appointment from President Sirisena today (Feb. 20) at Presidential Secretariat.

Major General A.W.J. Chrishantha De Silva has completed 36 years of service in Sri Lanka Army. He was the Chief of Staff of the Army from August 2013 to May 2014.

He also was the Commander of Volunteer Force of Sri Lanka Army.

Mr. De Silva is a former student of Royal College, Colombo.
