U.S. continues to assist demining in Sri Lanka

The United States continuing its assistance for demining in war-affected areas in Sri Lanka has donated nearly Rs. 300 million worth demining equipment to the Sri Lanka Army.

Lieutenant Dave Chesson from the U.S. Embassy in Colombo delivered donated equipment today to assist with demining efforts in the former war-affected areas of Sri Lanka.

The particular shipment, valued at nearly Rs. 300 million is just a part of continuing U.S. assistance with demining efforts across the country since 2009, the Embassy said in a statement.

Major General Lasantha Wickramasuriya, Chief Field Engineer, and Brigadier Jagath Gunawardena, Commander Engineer Brigade, received the donated equipment from the U.S. Embassy.
