No agreement which adversely affect local businessmen will be signed - President


President Maithripala Sirisena emphasized that no agreement will be signed with any country that will adversely affect the local businessmen. At a meeting with members of the local young entrepreneurís chamber at Waters Edge in Battaramulla on Saturday (Feb. 28) the President assured that his government would not allow anyone to take measures that are harmful to local businesses.

The meeting had been called to brief President Maithripala Sirisena and the Government about the problems faced by local entrepreneurs. The president pointed out the need to encourage local businessmen for the growth of the country. He emphasized that the present Government firmly believes in this concept.

The Young Entrepreneurs Chamber disclosed that local industries are severely affected by the agreements signed with various governments. President Sirisena while saying that he has a good knowledge about the matter, assured not to allow such repetitions.

They said that the previous governmentís un-methodical tender process made the businessmen helpless. They further said that they do not expect such actions from the present government.

The President stated that Sri Lankaís tender procedure was corrupt. He pledged not to allow such malpractices to take place in financial policies, under the Governmentís good governance practices.

The President further said that steps would be taken to prevent all frauds and malpractices in institutions.
