China is committed to develop its relations with Sri Lanka, and is ready to push the China-Sri Lanka strategic cooperative partnership to a new level, the new Chinese Ambassador in Colombo, Yi Xianliang said.
Meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera on Friday (06) after assuming office last month, Ambassador Yi spoke highly of the profound traditional friendship between the two countries and peoples.
Yi stressed that China is committed to develop its relations with Sri Lanka, and is ready to make joint efforts with Sri Lanka to strengthen the cooperation in various fields and people to people exchanges, so as to push the China-Sri Lanka strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.
"Minister Samaraweera welcomed the assumption of office by Ambassador Yi and expressed his gratitude to the warm and friendly hospitality accorded by Chinese side for his recent visit," the Chinese Embassy said in a statement.
Minister Samaraweera has said that the two countries are time-tested all weather friends and the Sri Lankan government attaches great importance to it relations with China.
Ambassador Yi said he also had frank exchange of views on China-Sri Lanka economic and trade cooperation, especially the cooperation on major projects with Minister Samaraweera.
The Sri Lankan government is willing to consolidate and deepen bilateral ties and cooperation in all areas, the Minister has assured.
