President Maithripala Sirisena has been appointed as the Chairman of the former ruling coalition United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
The decision was taken during the UPFA executive committee meeting held yesterday evening at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
Former Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon has been appointed as the UPFA National Organizer. Susil Premajayantha will continue to work as the General Secretary of the Alliance and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa will serve as the Treasurer.
The UPFA has been split following the Presidential election as a group of coalition members are seeking the appointment of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Alliance's prime ministerial candidate at the next general election.
