China, Sri Lanka sign agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation


Sri Lanka and China today signed agreements on a wide range of cooperation that cover health, education, social and economic development.

The agreements were signed following bilateral talks between President Maithripala Sirisena and Chinese President Xi Jingping.

An agreement to assist the promotion of public health in Sri Lanka was signed between the Ministry of Commerce in China and the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medicine in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, China has agreed to provide an state-of-the-art kidney hospital in Sri Lanka and a fully-equipped laboratory to diagnose kidney diseases.

According to agreement signed between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Urban Development and Water Drainage, the Chinese government has agreed to assist Sri Lanka in carrying out special researches in areas where the kidney disease is prevalent and provide technical assistance to purify ground water.

Ministry of Commerce in China and the Ministry of Justice in Sri Lanka signed an agreement to conduct an feasibility study in upgrading the Super Court Complex in Sri Lanka.

An agreement was also signed to provide technical training to 2000 young Sri Lankan scientists, a bio science laboratory and management and administrative training to public officers.
