- President at the National Engineering Conference 2015

President Maithripala Sirisena says that he will personally look into the Bill relating to the establishment of the National Engineering Committee and will take all necessary steps to expedite the process.

He made these observations participating as the Chief Guest at the National Engineering Conference 2015, held at the Hotel Galadari in Colombo, today (2).

The President said that while emerging as a nation which is rich in our cultural heritage and values we need to strengthen our local engineers. He added that the Government is committed to take every possible step to provide assistance to the engineers and that it will be implemented as a State policy.

“We must keep confidence on local engineers' knowledge and experience in development activities of the country and rely on their skills,” the President emphasized. He further said that the Government will utilize contributions from local engineers more in their development programmes than seeking outside engineers.

Today, we have been able to win the world by means of physically by construction of huge buildings, highways and with all other material infrastructure, but we failed spiritually, the President said. “Only we can enhance the value of the physical world by winning the spiritual world,” the President further said.

IESL's vision is to “Be amongst the leading professional institutions in engineering and technology in the world”.

IESL's mission is “To be the apex national body of engineers in Sri Lanka which ensures internationally recognized and locally relevant standards in the professional practice and education in engineering, while actively supporting national development and diligently serving its members and the society at large”.

A large gathering of prominent engineers and the public keen on engineering field participated at the event.
