Sri Lanka, Pakistan to strengthen business ties


Attention has been drawn to implement a new programme to strengthen the economic ties between the business communities of Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

When President Maithripala Sirisena met with Pakistan Minister for Commerce, Khurram Dastgir Khan to hold bilateral discussions yesterday (6) the attention was drawn to strengthening the commercial ties between the two nations.

Here, emphasized the need to build a healthy relationship in the field of commerce and trade between the two nations. During this meeting, discussions were held to promote the naval relationship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

After bilateral discussions between President Maithripala Sirisena and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Pakistan Prime Minister's House on Apr.06 a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on mutual cooperation in the shipping business between Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) and the Ceylon Shipping Corporation Ltd (CSCL).

The discussions focused on further strengthening Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.

The Pakistan Minister of Commerce pointed out that the opening of branches of Pakistan Banks in Sri Lanka and the introduction of telecommunication facilities to Sri Lanka may further strengthen the economic ties between the two countries.
