Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that one could be satisfied by the task performed in the past 88 days under the Maithri Palanaya. The Prime Minister, delivering a special statement in Parliament yesterday (April 7) on the progress of the Government's 100 day programme said that the majority of the pledges given have been fulfilled.
“The salaries of the Government employees were increased. An Interim allowance of 3,500 rupees has been paid to the pensioners. The Samurdhi relief payments were also increased. A programme to provide a bag of nutrition valued at 20,000 rupees to expecting mothers is presently being implemented. The prices of many essential food items were reduced. A reduction in the price of a domestic gas cylinder is one among them”, the PM said.
The Prime Minister further said that the Government has also taken measures to provide a higher price for the paddy harvest of the farmers. “A higher price is also being made for agricultural produce including tea and rubber”, he said.
The Prime Minister recalled that Mahapola scholarship allowance has also been increased to Rs. 5,000. He also mentioned that talks are underway with the wages boards to increase the wages of the employees in the private sector. The Prime Minister added that accordingly the private sector salaries will be increased shortly.
