Nineteenth amendment to constitution in Parliament today

 

The draft bill of the 19th amendment to the constitution will be presented to parliament today (April 27) for debate by President Maithripala Sirisena.

Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa said that this amendment which is an anticipation of the people of this country will get adopted by a majority of two thirds vote tomorrow. He said that the political parties such as the United National Party, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and Hela Urumaya have expressed support for the bill.

The debate on the bill will be held today, and tomorrow. The 19th amendment will remove certain powers of the executive presidency and establishment of independent commissions as it was proposed by the President in the presidential election.
