President Maithripala Sirisena will conduct the meeting with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a manner that will not breach the trust of nearly 6.3 million people who voted for him at the last Presidential election, the President said in a statement yesterday (5).
“It is standard procedure for President Sirisena to grant an opportunity for anyone who wishes to meet him,” the statement added. “The discussion between the former and the current Presidents will be strictly based on issues related to the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP). The two leaders will not discuss anything related to the activities of the government,” it said.
The statement added that the President agreed to meet former President responding to a request made by SLFP Parliamentarians Kumara Welgama and T.B.Ekanayake.
