President Maithripala Sirisena said Upul Shantha Sannasgala has expressed social realities in a more detailed and clear manner through his books.
He said that his book on Amma gives a vivid experience of rural poverty. “Sannasgala has attempted to express social reality in a more explicit manner without fear or favour to none,” he said.
The President was delivering the keynote address at the launch of 15 books written by author and veteran media personality Upul Shantha Sannasgala at the Thrangani Cinema Hall of the National Film Corporation yesterday (May 6).
The author presented the first copies of his books to President at this occasion.
The President said Sannasgala was one of his companions who played a major role on his path to victory at the last Presidential Election.
He said that Sannasgala had used his pen freely to express daily realities of society in a more creative manner.
The President added that the vast experience, expertise and the knowledge of Sannasgala should be integrated into the development of the country. He said that personalities of the caliber of Sannasgala should break their silence for the betterment of society.
