Major changes needed in National Education Policy - President

President Maithripala Sirisena said that major changes should take place within the National Education Policy, with emphasis on the need to provide proper guidance to children on vocational education.

The President said he strongly believed that there should be a change in the thinking on the National Education Policy with new plans with regard to education in general, as well as vocational education.

The strengthening of vocational education is of special significance in the resolution of national issues, he said. The President added that a programme should be prepared to make students aware of these vocational opportunities before sitting the GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level Examinations.

The President was addressing a function organized at the Pothuwila Sri Suriyabandara Rajamathindarama Vihare in Payagala on Tuesday (May 12), to unveil the Ranveta of the Vihare.

The President inspected the Computer Diploma Unit which is operating in affiliation to the Vihare, and distributed certificates to the diploma recipients.

The opening of the Market Complex in Aluthgama took place, under the Presidentís patronage.

Thereafter, the President visited the Kande Vihare in Aluthgama and engaged in religious observances.
