The Constitutional Council coming under the 19th Amendment to the constitution will be established within the next two weeks.
With the setting up of the Council, the independent commissions re-established by the 19th Amendment will also be appointed.
The Council comprises of seven Parliamentarians - including the Speaker, the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader - and three independent members.
According to Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, all legal requirements for the appointment of the Constitutional Council have been fulfilled.
"We are trying our best to appoint the Council before the end of this month," Rajapakshe added.
The setting up of the Constitutional Council comes in the wake of the Speaker signing the 19th Amendment to the Constitution giving it legal authorization.
The establishment of the Constitutional Council and Independent Commissions is considered as an integral part of the 19th Amendment.
