Positive step towards good governance Asgiriya Prelate

The reduction of the legal immunity offered to the President and making him answerable to Courts on human rights cases is a positive step towards good governance, said Most Ven. Galagama Aththadassi Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter.

The Prelate said this in the course of an Anusasana when Buddhasasana, Public Administration, Local Government, Provincial Councils and Democratic Governance Minister Karu Jayasuriya called on him on May 17 to felicitate him on his new appointment as the Mahanayake Thera and discuss arrangements for the official ceremony to mark the handing over of his act of appointment by the President.

The prelate said the younger generation was the lifeblood of the nation and it was the national duty to arm them with health, vitality and good personality to face future challenges in life.

The prelate who underscored the need for communal amity in the country said he highly valued the quick action taken by the Government to dispatch a rescue and humanitarian mission to assist earthquake victims in Nepal which was a friendly neighbor which is the birthplace of the Buddha.
