War Heroes are those worthy of honor - President

 

Today we are enjoying the freedom and solidarity in our country with territorial integrity accomplish by the commitments of the War Heroes. According to the Buddha, we should honor those who are worthy of honor. Our War Heroes are highly entitled to honor”, said President Maithripala Sirisena.

He said War Heroes sacrificed their lives and shed their blood for the freedom of our nation. They did so to build a free and peaceful country for the people of the motherland.

Speaking at the ceremony to commemorate the War Heroes, held yesterday (May 20) at Battaramulla War Heroes monument at Parliamentary Grounds, the President said those War Heroes will be in our hearts forever.

This commemoration, organized by Rana Viru Seva Authority, saw a gathering of more than 5000 children, spouses, next of kin of fallen War Heroes who paid their respects by name to their beloved ones.

Prime Minister, State Minister of Defence, Secretary Defence, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Chief of Defence Staff, Navy and Air Force Commanders and Major General Jagath Dias, Army Chief of Staff, representing the Commander of the Army also attended the ceremony.

President Sirisena received the salute of the troops. A one-minute silence in memory of all War Heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland, was then observed before religious observances of all denominations.

President Sirisena along with Prime Minister, State Minister of Defence, Secretary Defence, FM, CDS and Service Chiefs laid floral wreaths in remembrance of all War Heroes, and lit lamps in their memory.
