President participates in religious activities at Somawathi

 

President Maithripala Sirisena participated in religious activities this evening (June 02) held in historical Somawathi Temple, in commemoration of Poson Poya Day.

The President looked into the well-being of Chief Incumbent of Somawathie Temple Ven. Pahamune Sri Sumngala Thero. He also offered pirikara to Sri Sumangala Thero while he received the blessings by the Maha Sanga. President Sirisena declared open a drinking water tank at the temple premises.

He also opened an information communication center at the temple facilitated by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel consolidated. The information communication center includes high speed broadband and Free Wi-Fi facilities. Fixed telephones and PEO TV facilities have also been provided to this communication center.

The President also launched a new website on Somawathiya Temple so that the devotees will be able to reserve religious rituals (pujas) and pilgrim rest houses. It will also felicitate their donations and other contributions.

Mrs. Jayanthi Sirisena, Ministr Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, Chief minister of North Central Province Peshala Jayaratne and Deputy Minister Chandrasiri Sooriyarachchi were among those participated.
