President opens Swarnapali Bodhi Praakaraya

 

President Maithripala Sirisena declared open the Bodhi Praakaraya of the historic Swarnapali Raja Maha Vihare in Polonnaruwa yesterday (June 03).

President Sirisena who arrived at the historic Swarnapali Raja Maha Vihare at Swarnapaligama in Kalaagala in Polonnaruwa engaged in religious observances. Thereafter he unveiled the plaque to open the newly constructed Bodhi Praakaraya of the Vihare.

The President who called on Ven. Kusalagnana Thera, the Chief Incumbent of the Vihare engaged in a brief discussion with him and made inquiries into his wellbeing.

The residents thronged the temple after learning about the visit to the temple by President Maithripala Sirisena. The President immediately approached the crowd and made inquiries into their issues. He mentioned that that he would find solutions to their problems.

The President also joined in the second day of the rice dansala organized by the Polonnaruwa Buddhist Association for the 57th consecutive year. The President participated in serving meals at the dansala.
