President participates in World Environment Day celebration at Viharamahadevi Park


Ceremony to mark World Environment Day 2015 was held at Viharamahadevi Park, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena today (June 6).

The ceremony themed ‘Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care’ was organized by Parisarika Jana Sansadaya in collaboration with Colombo Municipal Council, under the directions of State Ministry of Environment.

An exhibition was also inaugurated yesterday, in line with the celebration.

President Sirisena inspected the exhibition while mingling with the staff.

The President also planted a sapling in Viharamahadevi park premises to mark the World Environment Day. He also was presented several books written on the environment at this occasion.

Members of the Maha Sangha and the clergy of other religions, State Minister of Environment Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Deputy Minister Vasantha Senanayake and Major of Colombo Municipal Council A. J. M. Muzammil were among those participated at the ceremony.
