President Maithripala Sirisena says disciplined and respected political culture will be established in the country again.
“The respected politician was gradually disappeared within a short span of two decades following the introduction of preferential voting system” he added.
He made these remarks while participating at the 15th death anniversary commemoration of late Minister C.V Gunarathne held in Rathmalana yesterday (June 7).
The dignity of politics of this country was destroyed due to corruption, irregularity, misuse of state power, use of state resources for families of politicians during the past period, the President said.
He added the legitimacy of politics should be re-established by introducing genuine and people friendly individuals to the political arena.
The President said C.V Gunarathne was a disciplined politician and rendered a priceless service to the SLFP.
Late Minister C.V Gunarathne was killed by an LTTE suicide bomber in the year 2000.
Ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka, A. H. M. Fawzi, Mohan Lal Grero, Chandana Kathriarachchi and Mr. Jerry Gunarathne, elder brother of late C. V. Gunarathne were among those participated at this event.
