Top priority to solve people's problems

 

President Maithripala Sirisena emphasized that we could not delay resolving problems of the people under any circumstances.

As well as, when serving people importance should not be given to the party politics. The responsibility of the people's representatives is to commit themselves to fulfill the aspirations of all people in the country, the President further said.

He made these observations participating in the Polonnaruwa District Development Committee meeting at the Polonnaruwa District Divisional Secretariat yesterday (10).

The President called this meeting to review the progress of the development projects in Polonnaruwa District and to discuss key issues pertaining to the area.

Here, the President Sirisena had a lengthy discussion on the matters prevailing in the District in the fields of education, health, road development, transportation, sports and all other fields.

“There should not be any divisions , while serving the public,” the president further said. The President also pointed out the importance of building a better cooperation between the Public servants and politician when serving the people.

The President said that his intention of visiting each and every district in the country is to inquire into the shortage of facilities in those districts and to provide speedy solutions to those matters.

‘It is the responsibility of all relevant authorities to implement all the decisions taken at these meetings as it is,’ he added.

Reconstruction of the irrigation facilities in the district and protection projects on Dams were discussed in detail at the meeting.

Also the attention had been drawn to the matters relating to the shortage of teachers in the schools of the Polonnaruwa district.

The President also inquired into the progress of the project, which commence under the government's 100-Days Programme to develop 1500 villages in the Polonnaruwa district.

Special attention of the President was drawn to the matters arising from Disaster Management and also the President took into the consideration of the new proposals presented at the meeting regarding the issue.

Specially, distinct attention was drawn to the health issues pertaining in the District and the progress of the programmes implemented to prevent kidney diseases were discussed in detail at the meeting.

President Maithripala Sirisena also pointed out the importance of conducting programmes continuously regarding the kidney disease to educate the people about this disease ,specially at school level.

The details of the programmes implement to prevent leprosy ,were also presented at the meeting.

The President said that it is the obligation of the Government to provide better health services to the public and to achieve this aim the Government has implemented a special programme regarding the development of rural hospitals in the district.

The President also instructed to implement a procedure to provide speedy service to the public who are visiting to the Divisional Secretary to solve their land disputes. For this purpose the possibility of conducting a Mobile Service was discussed.

North Central Provincial Council Chief Minister Peshala Jayarathna, Peoples' Representatives in the District, Ministry Secretaries, and high-ranking public officials participated.
