Freedom given to people must also be extended to journalists &artistes - President


President Maithripala Sirisenasays the freedom given to people by present government must also be extended to journalists & artistes.

Whatever the ideology or vision nurtured by owners of the institutions where the journalists and artists work for the journalist and the artist should be given the opportunity to work freely and independently.

President Sirisena made these remarks at Raigam Tele Awards Ceremony – 2014, held at NelumPokuna Theatre in Colombo yesterday (June 12).
Awards were given based on best tele dramas and programs telecastduring 2014 in television channels in Sri Lanka.

The President said government media has been de-politicized as a responsibility of the government to establish freedom and rights in society.

“The wisdom required by society can be achieved through the work done with free mind within an institution”, he added.

President Sirisena also commended the initiatives by ‘Kingdom of Raigam’ as a private institute for the progress of the field of art. He stated it is the responsibility of the government to give the helping hand to the progressing entrepreneurs. He emphasized the government will encourage local entrepreneurs through its policy.

Awards for the best actor, actress and television channel were presented by the President.

Ministers Rajitha Senaratneand PataliChampikaRanawaka were among those participated in this ceremony.
