President Maithripala Sirisena said he would continue the forward march with the people to provide the country with the change they sought.
Whatever the challenge I have to face, I will not stop this progressive march and all the political forces that love the Motherland would join me in this march, he said.
The President said this yesterday (June 14) addressing SLFP Minneriya Bala Mandalaya.
“The party and colour of politics is not important to me and what I want to do is to serve the people of this country,” President Sirisena said.
No leader after Prime Minister Bandaranaike provided leadership to bring the socio economic and political change to the nation and the people elected me on January 8 to give the leadership to bring in that change in the country, he said.
He added that to develop a country it is essential to solve the problems of the people and he is determined to solve basic problems of people through a development process that would be felt by the people and not an artificial development to show the world.
“I did not become President to enjoy luxuries, living in Presidential palaces. The people elected me on January 8 to provide the transformation they sought. After fulfilling these aspirations, I will retire in five years time and return to Polonnaruwa, not as a former President, but as the lovable leader of people of Polonnaruwa,” President stated.
