Kandy City will be developed preserving its historical heritage - President


President Maithripala Sirisena says he would comprehensively develop the historical Kandy City under a proper town plan, preserving its historical heritage.

He added that he would implement the work on that after forthcoming Parliamentary Election, paying the consideration on the ideas and suggestions of all political parties, government officials and business community.

The President made these remarks at the 43rd anniversary celebration of Mahanuwara Sinhala Velenda Peramuna (Kandy Sinhala Entrepreneursí Front) today (Aug. 08).

President Sirisena also pointed out that the Kandy Town which inherited with a wealth of heritage should be developed as a city which showcases the pride of the past and with beauty which attracts tourists. He said he would recognize the issues of the business community and will provide proper solutions as a responsible government.

The President presented awards and gifts to those who committed specific contribution for the Mahanuwara Sinhala Velenda Peramuna.
Minister Lakshaman Kiriella, Central Province Governer Surangani Ellawala, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake and Mayor Mahenra Ratwatte as well as the president of the Mahanuwara Sinhala Velenda Peramuna Mr. Mahinda A. Munasinghe were among those participated in this event.

Thereafter the President visited Ranawana Purana Raja Maha Vihara and engaged in religious activities.

He also met the Chief Incumbent of the temple, acting member of Management Committee of Malwathu Chapter of Shyamopali Maha Nikaya Ven. Ampitiye Sri Chandrajothi Thero and looked into his well-being. Ven. Chandrajothi Thero chanted seth Pirith and blessed the President
