UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon congratulated President Maithripala Sirisena for conducting recently concluded Parliamentary Elections in a free and fair manner.
In a telephone conversation with the President today (19), the Secretary General commended the President, the Government and the election process for conducting a free and fair election without any interference.
He also said that successful completion of the elections shows the administrative ability and the good governance of the President as well as the Prime Minister.
The UN Secretary General said that he is happy to welcome the President Maithripala Sirisena at the UN General Assembly, that will be held in the next September.
The UN Chief expects that the international community in the futurewill be able to witness the new government’s works which will make further progress on good governance. He further said that he is expected to hold talks with the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe in this regard.
Mr. Ban Ki-Moon said that he wishes to meet President Sirisenapersonally, who will arrive in New York City to participate the UN General Assembly.
