SL wins the Global Energy Award 2001

A Sri Lankan rural energy-generating project has won the prestigious Global Energy Award - 2001, awarded to effective systems of power generation.

This project put into operation at the initiative of ITDG (Intermediate Technology Development Group) was presented with this award in the city of Lintis in Austria.

This award is conferred for special and conspicuous services rendered in respect of effective sources of energy capable of re-generation.  For this year’s award, 1240 projects from seventy-five countries competed and six countries received awards. Sri Lanka received the only award for the entire Asian region, for this project.

According to Intermediate Technology Development Group, the award winning Sri Lankan energy project was based on small-scale power plants operating over a period of 10 years.
