Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has joined the Allaince Network of GRIC Communications - a worldwide network of more than 300 major service providers and telecommunications companies - to give a more value-added and low-cost service to a wide scope of local subscribers in the country. SLT can now offer individual subscribers and corporate customers the use of GRIC's extensive global network for high-quality, low-cost remote internet connections. SLT has also enhanced the global remote internet access services provided to its local subscribers, including the ability to connect to the internet via approximately 6,000 points of presence (POPs) in more than 157 countries using the GRIC travelerTM global Internet roaming solution. GRIC traveler user who journeys to Sri Lanka will also be to connect to the Internet at the cost of a local phone call. According to the agreement, GRIC is to expand services to Sri Lanka, further solidifying its position in the Asia-Pacific, a region with a growing demand for IP based services. GRIC's Asia-Pacific customer base of more than 130 leading telecommunications carriers and internet service providers includes Singapore Telecom, China Telecom, Telekom Malaysia, Telstra's online Australian subsidiary, Chunghwa Telecom, Korea Telecom, NTT, KDD, Fujitsu Nifty and StarHub Telecom. The alliance with GRIC will give a value-added service to the subscribers which enables Internet and e-mail access from anywhere in the world, with a quality connection at the cost of a local phone call.
