Civilian abducted and tortured by the LTTE [26 January 2000] Yesterday at Velverikulam, Trincomalee around 1 p.m, one civilian was abducted by the LTTE and had two of his fingers cut off by the terrorists, a Defence Ministry report said today. On the same day around 4.30 p.m. at Krishnakovilkulam troops sniped at and killed one terrorist. Another three terrorists were killed by security forces counter attacks, after terrorists fired mortars at security forces in Muhavil, Jaffna. Around 8.55 p.m. out at sea off Ariyali, security forces fired at a boat with armour and artillery fire destroying the boat completely, a ministry report said. On Sunday morning, a pair of ground attack aircraft were launched from Katunayake airbase to bomb identified LTTE positions in the general area of Ariyali, Jaffna, security sources told The Island.
