Terrorists harass civilians

In Meeyankulam, Batticaloa, at around 9am yesterday, stole three bicycles belonging to civilians who had gone to the jungle to collect firewood.

     Also yesterday around 2.30pm in Vathirayan, Jaffna, security forces operating ahead of defences confronted a group of terrorists. During the brief fire fight that followed, two terrorists were killed.

     In Mannar around 8 am at Elutoor, Mannar Island, police personnel recovered two claymore mines, one 12V motor cycle battery, four detonators, two detonator cords and 20 meters of wire at Mannar, Thalvpadu road.

     On Tuesday around 10.30 pm out at sea off Pulmudai, naval craft deployed on offensive patrol had detected suspicious boat movements from Pulmudai towards Nayaru. When the naval craft attacked the boat, it increased speed and fled towards land, sustaining damage as it went.

     When approaching land subsequently, naval craft observed approximately 30 LTTE cadres waiting on the beach, south of Pulmudai. Closing upon the terrorist, naval craft attacked them with naval guns. The terrorists retaliated with small arms and fled inland with their casualties.
