19^th ITF Junior Tennis Tournament in Sri Lanka

The 19^th International Tennis Federation [ITF] Junior Tennis Tournament will be held in Sri Lanka form 14^th to 20^th January 2002 at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association Courts at Greenpath, Colombo.

The boys’ tournament will be of 64 draw and while the girls’ singles will be of thirty-two draw. This tournament will award points to players for their year-end ranking positions. The winner of this tournament will be awarded 40 points in the singles while 30 points will be awarded in the doubles. 

Sri Lanka tennis Association officials confirmed that more than fifty participants have already confirmed their participation including top ITF players from Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Hong Kong, Thailand and India.

Sri Lanka has been conducting this tournament for the past eighteen years; from this year the event will take place twice a year. The second tournament is scheduled to be held in September, this year. 

Mr. Lalith Withana, President of the SLTA said, “This will be a very good chance for the local players to get exposure and play against international class opponents which will hold them in good stead in the future.”
