Sri Lanka win first Cricket Test by a record margin

Spearheaded by the off-spin of Muttiah Muralitharan, Sri Lanka recorded its sixth consecutive Test victory – the first such run of victories by a sub-continental side –The local side has now taken an early lead the three test rubber. 

Zimbabweans, resuming from their overnight 64 for two were bowled out for 236 in their second innings to lose by a comprehensive margin of an innings and 166 runs - Sri Lanka's largest victory in its 19-year test history. 

Mutttiah Muralitharan was once again the chief wicket-taker, picking up four wickets in each innings. The champion off-spinner rounded off a remarkable year for in which he claimed 80 wickets in 11 games, the highest ever haul by a spinner in a calendar year. Only former Australian pace man Dennis Lillie of  (85 wickets in 13 games) has taken more.
