Muralitharan: Cricketer of the Year 2001

CricketNext.com has declared Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttaiah Muralitharan Cricketer of the Year 2001.The selection was based on a poll conducted among its readers.

The spin wizard was a clear winner, bagging 9,308 votes, as many as 3,756 votes more than Indian batting star Sachin Tendulkar, who was placed second with 5,552 votes.

“CricketNext.com had a tremendous response from the readers, and it was evident Muralitharan would be way ahead of the rest. In all, 38,202 readers voted to choose the CricketNext.com Cricketer of the Year 2001”, the website said.
