Sri Lanka won the Asian Test Championship by eight-wickets defeating defending champions Pakistan at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore Sunday.

Sri Lanka made 528 runs in their first inning in response to Pakistan’s 234 runs.

Pakistan’s 325 runs in their second inning left Sri Lanka needing just 32 runs to win.

“It was a complete team effort and I am delighted that we have won the Asian title,” skipper Sanath Jayasuriya said.

Sunday's triumph was Sri Lanka's ninth successive test win since last July.

Pakistan won the inaugural Asian Test Championship by beating Sri Lanka in the final by an innings and 175 runs in 1998-99.
