Sri Lanka's first all suite beach hotel 'The Privilege', Wadduwa which was opened to guests last November has commenced operations with the hope of a resurgence in the local tourism industry in the months ahead.

The hotel is the first in the country to be built on an all suite concept under a Board of Investment project with an initial investment of more than Rs. 65 million.

The hotel is the brainchild of veteran hotelier Susil de Alwis who has invested all his savings into making this project a reality.

Mr. de Alwis expressed optimism of the industry returning to its best in the entire history of Sri Lankan tourism in the coming months. The decision to open the hotel last November when the industry suffered its worst set back due to the terrorist attacks and the fallout in the travel sector he said was a major challenge when most of the others were closing down and retrenching staff as a cost cutting measure.

The hotel would cater to the up market clientele who would like to spend a quiet vacation just an hour’s drive from Colombo. The hotel has, a few months from its opening come to be a popular venue for busy diplomats and high profile business magnates.

Marketing Manager of the hotel, Ranjaka de Mel said the all suite concept would be the ideal for busy executives and those who live in the Apartments in the City and those who yearn for a rest. It is a developing business for the future.

The hotel provides all guests with a personalized service with even the food prepared according to the likes of the guests with round the clock room service unlike the traditional hotels where their is a specific times for meals and buffet times.

All suites are provided with Satellite TV's and VCD and fax/modem, telephones and a mini bar. All the chefs and other staff have been hand picked to provide for this specialized all-suite concept with the specializing in this area de Alwis said.
