Disaster mitigation plans have been prepared and submitted to the concerned authorities in respect of severely devastated 05 Divisional Secretariat Divisions selected one each from the five provinces affected by May 2003 Floods with the initiative of UNDP. UNDP has granted provisions for the reconstruction of 178 minor irrigation work in 10 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Matara District affected by May 2003 floods. Agreement was signed with SIDA to obtain financial assistance to the 109 million rupees in respect of housing and infrastructure facilities in the flood affected districts.
